Renowned artist, and former SVA associate, Richard Layzell, will be in residence from April 23rd to 25th in and out of the gallery. Richard Layzell is currently Creative Ecologist at the LUX London and course leader for Print + Time Based Media at Wimbledon College of Arts.

How to Name a Tree

A performance about Richard Layzell’s many ecological experiences over the past two years. He’s travelled across five continents to find these discoveries, with his fictional collaborator Kino Paxton.

Along the way they’ve encountered the brown bear, the streaky headed seedeater, the pied butcherbird, the site of the first eco-action above a Norwegian waterfall, the composers Hollis Taylor and Errollyn Wallen, gross deception in Hastings, the largest ghost gum tree in Australia and the madness triggered by extreme poverty or extreme wealth in New Brunswick Canada.

Even though this event has been postponed we are working hard on continuing to support the fantastic range of artists that we work with by securing new dates with them and we are hoping to keep a lot of the incredible programme that we had booked. So look out here for the rescheduled events and online events.

Like many arts and music venues we are facing a very critical time financially so we’d be over the moon if you are in a position to make a small donation to help us keep bringing you our incredible, joyous, ambitious and diverse programme of live gigs, exhibitions and festivals to Stroud. We need live music, art and dance as much as ever right now and we would love you to help us keep bringing it to as many people as possible.

You can donate to SVA here: sva.org.uk/donate
