Friday 14th March 7pm
Winner of the Aga Khan Music Award, Soumik Datta reveals a brand new immersive in-the-round experience in partnership with Loss><Gain, SVA, Goods Shed Immersive Productions and d&b audiotechnik.
Airports: gateways, crossroads, places of fleeting encounters and untold stories. These liminal spaces, these moments of transit, form the world of 'Borderlands'. Imagine the hush of a departure lounge, the echo of announcements, the questions asked at immigration, all translated through contemporary Indian music and cinematic soundscape. Weaving sarod, personal stories of migration, spoken word volleys and cinematic textures in epic surround-sound, Borderlands bridges Indian music with pioneering spatial audio experimentation.
Soumik Datta will be in residence at SVA Goods Shed in early march producing new work to debut on the Friday 14 March before being exhibited in other soundscape locations.
Borderlands is produced by Soumik Datta Arts in partnership with SVA, Goods Shed Immersive, Productions, Loss Gain,d&b audiotechnik,Aga Khan Foundation, G5A Warehouse, BNP Paribas,The Space, Philharmonia Orchestra, Hawkwood College and Arts Council England.
